Wishing You A Merry Christmas

Postmarked Dec 25, 9 AM, 1913  To Mrs. M.J. Jewett.  The postmark appears to be Foxcroft and the town it’s addressed to looks something like ”Sassgirndle.”

My Dear Sister Eva,  Your card just received.  Many thanks.  Ans. Rushing.  Going to _____ family.  Best love and good wishes to both you and MJ from both with love.  Mrs. Di__ Levens__

Lynn, could the town be South Berwick, Maine? I’m wondering if the M. Jewett could be Mary Jewett, the older sister of Sarah Orne Jewett, the author. SOJ died around 1906-09, (don’t remember without looking it up ) but I’m sure her sister was still living. They lived in the old homeplace on the corner.

    Such pretty cards.

Sheila, I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to answer you. I really appreciate your comment. I put on some reading glasses and tried really hard to decipher what’s on the back of this card. The town ends in “croft” and with what is left of the first part, I think it may be “Foxcroft.” I am not sure where that is in location to South Berwick.

I am also going to edit the post and try to include more info about what’s written. The handwriting is hard to read, but I’ll try!

    Thanks again for your comment.

    Lynn
